Christine could become a star in her own right if she had the right training. Now she is actually being tutored by the Phantom who has fallen in love with her, only to see her old childhood sweetheart, Raoul, arrive on the scene and capture her heart.
Thus the phantom eventually reveals himself to Christine as the disfigured musical genius who has hidden himself away in the sewers of Paris because he is ashamed of his physical appearance. He becomes jealous and enraged of Christine and Raoul and steals her away.
