School Of Rock, The Musical Tickets for School Of Rock- New London THEATRE, London

24th Oct 2016 - 20th Oct 2019

School Of Rock Based on the hit Jack Black film, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Olivier Award-winning stage adaptation School Of Rock – The Musical is leaving audiences rocking night after night at the New London Theatre. A guitar-thrashing, drum-rolling, rip-roaring celebration of the power of rock, School Of Rock – The Musical tells the story of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star struggling to make ends meet. Posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school, Finn discovers his students’ musical talents, and opts to enlist his fifth-graders in a quest to conquer The Battle Of The Bands. Described by Black as “a Broadway masterpiece”, and the recipient of three Olivier Award nominations including Mastercard Best New Musical (winning Outstanding Achievement in Music for the three children's bands rocking with live instruments every night), School Of Rock – The Musical features songs from the acclaimed movie, with new music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater. With a book by Julian Fellowes and direction from Laurence Connor, this is a rollicking show guaranteed to have audiences young and old embracing the ear popping, riff scorching and all conquering music of rebellion.

History of the New London Theatre

The New London Theatre was constructed a mere 40 years ago, making it an infant when compared to some of its neighbouring playhouses. The theatre was designed by the Croatian architect Paul Tvrtkovic.

Before the New London Theatre was constructed, another venue stood on its site. In 1919 the venue was called the Winter Garden Theatre after being a pub for many years before. Sadly the venue deteriorated in fortunes and was sold to a developer in 1959 and everything inside and out was auctioned off to leave the old theatre abandoned until permission was finally granted to demolish the building in 1965.

The New London Theatre was built in 1971, hailed by the Royal Institute of British Architects as ‘a theatre of the future’.

A 60ft revolve is incorporated into the heart of the stage area and the actual walls of the auditorium can be altered to accommodate the most ambitious set designs.
